On March 1st, the top Democratic officials of the US Appropriations Committee issued a statement stating that the Republican leadership has abandoned the bipartisan government funding negotiations and thus increased the risk of a government shutdown, which is “very disappointing”. The statement stated that the Republican leadership plans to pass a year-round funding resolution that includes cuts from Musk’s “Government Efficiency Department,” which will give President Trump new discretion to allocate funds according to his own wishes. Democrats hold an opposing stance on this. The senior officials of the Democratic Party expressed their hope that Republicans can return to the negotiating table and jointly pass the complete annual appropriations bill.
