On February 19th, US President Trump stated on February 18th local time that he would not oppose European countries sending peacekeeping forces to Ukraine to provide security if a peace agreement is reached. European leaders have previously discussed dispatching peacekeeping forces to provide security guarantees to Ukraine after reaching a peace agreement. Trump said at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, “There’s no problem with having troops there, I won’t object at all.” This was Trump’s first statement after the US held talks with Russia on the Ukraine issue in Riyadh earlier that day. Trump said that the US will not send any troops to Ukraine. Trump said that Ukraine could have reached an agreement several years ago and should have participated in negotiations earlier. Trump said that negotiations on the Ukraine issue are progressing smoothly. He also said, ‘I don’t think we have to withdraw all our troops from Europe.’.
