On January 17, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on January 16 local time that the Gaza Strip ceasefire agreement would come into force as planned on January 19, although there were still some “outstanding issues” to be resolved. He pointed out that the negotiation process was extremely challenging, so it is not surprising that problems arose, and all parties are working to resolve the relevant issues. The ceasefire agreement was reached through diplomatic efforts from Qatar, Egypt, and the United States. Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed announced on the evening of the 15th in Doha, the capital of Qatar, that Israel and Hamas have reached an agreement on a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. The ceasefire agreement is divided into three stages. The first phase will be implemented starting from January 19th.
