On January 15th, according to ABC, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is working to ban the use of Red No. 3 dye in food. The agency stated that it is revising regulations on pigment additives to prohibit the use of Red No. 3 dye in food and ingested drugs. It is reported that the dye is a synthetic food dye that can give food and beverages a bright cherry red color. It is mainly used in candies, cakes, cookies, frozen desserts, icing, and some edible drugs. At least two studies have shown that high levels of Red 3 dye are associated with cancer in experimental mice. However, the FDA stated that the association between this dye and cancer has not been confirmed in humans.
