An armed attack occurred in a coastal city in western Ecuador, resulting in 5 deaths

On January 11th, Ecuadorian media reported on the 10th that an armed attack occurred in the coastal city of Manta in the western province of Manavi on the evening of the 9th, resulting in 5 deaths. According to reports, around 23:00 local time, a group of armed militants broke into a two-story building in Manta city and opened fire on the occupants, resulting in 4 deaths on the spot and 1 death after being taken to the hospital. The police said that three of the victims had a history of drug trafficking and illegal gun ownership, and the attack may be related to drug trafficking activities in Manawi province. Manta City is located on the Pacific coast and is an important port city in Ecuador. On January 3rd, the Eritrean government declared a 60 day state of emergency in 7 provinces, including Manavi province, and 3 cities, including the capital Quito.
