Colombo, January 8th (Xinhua) – The Sri Lanka International Love Package Donation Ceremony was held at the Prime Minister’s Office in Sri Lanka on the 7th. The China Rural Development Foundation and Alibaba Charity donated 5000 love packages containing learning, living, and hygiene supplies to Sri Lanka.

Matura Seneviratna, Deputy Minister of Education of Sri Lanka, expressed great gratitude to the China Rural Development Foundation and Alibaba Charity for their assistance to Sri Lanka at the event. This donation has alleviated the current situation of students in underdeveloped areas lacking learning and daily necessities.
The Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Qi Zhenhong, stated that China firmly supports the Sri Lankan leaders’ policy of vigorously developing education and increasing support for impoverished students. We hope that the benefited students will work hard to learn and strive for excellence, and become the backbone of Sri Lanka’s development and ambassadors of China Sri Lanka friendship in the future.
Zou Zhiqiang, Assistant Director of the International Development Department of the China Rural Development Foundation, stated that the total value of the 5000 donated love packages is 750000 RMB. The packages and items incorporate Chinese cultural elements, and we hope that the benefiting students can fully utilize them and deepen their understanding of Chinese culture.
The China Rural Development Foundation and Alibaba Public Welfare jointly launched the international love package project in 2019 to donate supplies for learning, living, health, sports and other purposes to students in underdeveloped areas of developing countries along the “the Belt and Road” to convey the friendship of the Chinese people. As of October 2024, the project has benefited 1.39 million primary school students in 15 countries. This donation is the first time the project has landed in Sri Lanka, making Sri Lanka the 16th beneficiary country of this project.
