On December 29th, local time, Egyptian President Sisi and French President Macron had a phone call to discuss the situation in Syria and other issues. In a statement released on the same day, the Egyptian Presidential Office stated that the two sides discussed bilateral relations during the phone call. Both sides emphasized the importance of continuing to strengthen economic and investment cooperation between the two countries in various fields. Both sides also exchanged views on the development of the regional situation, emphasizing the importance of reaching an immediate ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, exchanging detained persons, and ensuring the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip. Both sides also emphasized the necessity of avoiding regional escalation and full-scale war. When discussing the development of the situation in Syria, both sides emphasized the need to safeguard Syria’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, as well as to initiate a comprehensive political process that includes all ethnic groups in Syria. In addition, both sides emphasized the importance of implementing the terms of the Lebanon ceasefire agreement and fully implementing Security Council Resolution 1701. Both sides call for continued support and strengthening of the capabilities of the Lebanese army, as well as accelerating the Lebanese presidential election process, in order to promote stability in the Lebanese country.
