Indonesian Minister of Transport: Jakarta Bandung high-speed railway significantly enhances Indonesia’s competitiveness

Jakarta, October 17 (Xinhua) — The one-year anniversary celebration of the opening of the Jakarta Bandung high-speed railway was held in Jakarta, Indonesia on the 17th. Indonesian Transport Minister Budi Kariya Sumadi stated in his speech that the successful operation of the Jakarta Bandung high-speed railway has significantly enhanced Indonesia’s competitiveness globally, especially in Southeast Asia.

Budi said that China not only brings advanced high-speed rail technology to Indonesia, but also trains local drivers and other technical personnel. He hopes that the two countries will continue to strengthen cooperation in the future, not limited to the Jakarta Bandung high-speed railway project, but can also be extended to other projects, such as the intelligent rail transit system in Indonesia’s new capital.

Chinese Ambassador to Indonesia Wang Lutong stated in his speech that the Jakarta Bandung high-speed railway operates safely, efficiently, and continuously, and its comprehensive benefits are gradually emerging. China is willing to work together with the Indonesian government and enterprises to operate the Jakarta Bandung high-speed railway well, contribute to Indonesia’s infrastructure construction and transportation development, and continuously benefit the Indonesian people.

According to data from China Railway International Limited, since its opening on October 17, 2023, the Jakarta Bandung high-speed railway has operated a total of 15826 high-speed trains, transported 5.79 million passengers, and safely traveled over 2.57 million kilometers. Transportation is safe and stable, and the radiation driving effect is increasingly evident.

According to China Railway International Co., Ltd., the China Indonesia operation and maintenance consortium continuously optimizes the train operation plan based on passenger flow demand. The daily operation of high-speed trains on the Jakarta Bandung high-speed railway has increased from 14 trains in the initial opening period to 52 trains during peak hours, with a maximum daily passenger volume of 24132 and a maximum passenger occupancy rate of 99.6%.

It is reported that the opening of the Jakarta Bandung high-speed railway has shortened the travel time from over 3 hours to 46 minutes, greatly improving the transportation conditions of cities along the route and promoting regional economic and social development. Relying on the Jakarta Bandung high-speed railway, the Indonesian government actively promotes the “high-speed railway+tourism” model, attracting a large number of tourists. The Jakarta Bandung high-speed railway has gradually become a golden tourism route.
