Cairo, July 4th (Xinhua) — The “Common Heritage, Common World” China Egypt Silk Road Cultural Heritage International Exchange Event was held in Cairo, the capital of Egypt, on the 3rd. Guests from UNESCO, Chinese and Egyptian government agencies, as well as cultural, architectural, heritage conservation and other fields attended.
This event is jointly organized by the Nanjing Municipal Government Information Office, Southeast University, and Tongji University with the support of the UNESCO Cairo Office.
Ramos, Assistant Director General of UNESCO, stated in a video message that UNESCO will continue to take action to promote cross-cultural exchange, protect the common heritage of humanity, and shape a better future.
Hu Kaihong, the full-time deputy director of the Central Office for the Construction of Spiritual Civilization, delivered a speech saying that this event is a dialogue between the banks of the Yangtze River and the Nile River, a joint construction between Nanjing and Cairo, and a meeting and mutual understanding between the youth of China and Egypt. It is of great significance for promoting the civilization concept of equality, mutual learning, dialogue, and inclusiveness, practicing the global civilization initiative, and strengthening the exchange and mutual learning of civilizations.
Ali Shifni, Vice President of the Egypt China Friendship Association, delivered a speech saying that the long history and cultural heritage of China and Egypt have contributed to enriching human civilization. The two countries will continue to strengthen cooperation in various fields and share a prosperous future.
Chinese Ambassador to Egypt Liao Liqiang said in his speech that as two ancient civilizations, China and Egypt both have cultural heritage worth proud of. China is willing to work with Egypt to jointly implement the strategic consensus of the two heads of state on building a China Egypt community with a shared future, and promote common development and prosperity between the two countries.
Experts and scholars from China, Egypt, and international organizations exchanged and shared experiences on the protection and utilization of cultural heritage.
The “Common Heritage, Common World” themed exhibition held at the same time focuses on key countries and regions along the Silk Road, such as China and Egypt, using rivers as clues to fully showcase the historical and cultural heritage with urban characteristics, as well as China’s international cooperation achievements in the field of cultural heritage. In addition, a youth dialogue on the protection and inheritance of the Yangtze River Nile cultural heritage was held during the event, focusing on topics such as cultural heritage protection, utilization, and inheritance.
