Johannesburg, June 13 (Xinhua) – Marcelo, Lesotho – The handover ceremony for the completion of China’s aid to the construction of a hospital and ophthalmic clinic in the Marcelo region was held on June 13 in the capital city of Lesotho, Marcelo.
Approximately 600 people attended the ceremony, including Lesotho Prime Minister Matcairn, Senate Speaker Mokitimi, National Assembly Speaker Sekamane, Deputy Prime Minister Majara, Health Minister Mochoboloane, and other officials from the Lesotho side, as well as the Chinese Embassy’s Charg é d’affaires in Lesotho, Lv Liangzhong, members of the medical team assisting Lesotho, representatives of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, and local residents. Matcairn and Lv Liangzhong jointly cut the ribbon for the ceremony.
In his speech, Matcairn thanked the Chinese government for its extensive assistance to Lesotho over the years in areas such as economy, culture, education, and healthcare. He said that the completion and operation of the hospital in the Maseru region will provide strong medical security for the residents of Maseru and its surrounding areas.
Mochoboloane delivered a speech stating that hospitals in the Marcelo region have advanced medical equipment provided by China, and the Lesotho side looks forward to using China’s aid to build hospitals as a template to upgrade the medical level of hospitals nationwide in Lesotho.
Lv Liangzhong said in his speech that hospitals in the Marcelo region are a model of cooperation in the field of health between China and Laos, and will significantly improve local medical and health conditions. China will continue to uphold the concept of building a community with a shared future between China and Africa, continuously expand and deepen practical cooperation in various fields between China and Laos, implement a mechanism for hospital cooperation, and benefit the two countries and their peoples.
The hospital project in Marcelo region is undertaken by Shanghai Construction Engineering Group in China.
