Islamabad, June 16 (Xinhua) – The first unit of the Sugginari hydroelectric power plant in Pakistan was successfully launched on the 16th and officially entered the water commissioning stage, marking the final sprint stage of the project construction and a big step towards achieving production and power generation.
The Sugginari Hydropower Station is located on the Kunha River in the Mansehra region of Khyber Pashtun Province in northwestern Pakistan. It is invested and constructed by China Energy Construction Overseas Investment Co., Ltd. and is a priority project for the implementation of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor.
Cheng Dan, General Manager of China Energy Construction Overseas Investment Co., Ltd., told Xinhua News Agency that the first unit of the power station passed a series of tests smoothly after starting up, and the unit operated smoothly, meeting the design requirements. Next, the first unit will undergo dozens of tests, including temperature stability tests, to ensure that all technical indicators of the unit meet the design standards.
The total designed installed capacity of Sujijinari Hydropower Station is 884 MW. The project started construction in January 2017 and is expected to be put into operation within this year. After production, the power plant can provide Pakistan with 3.2 billion kilowatt hours of clean electricity annually.
