On the 29th, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan announced that a highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreak was confirmed on a farm in Chiba Prefecture. This is the 11th outbreak in Japan since the start of the avian influenza epidemic season last autumn and winter.
According to a press release released by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan on the same day, this farm located in Furi City, Chiba Prefecture has raised approximately 63000 chickens. After receiving the report on the 28th, relevant departments in Chiba Prefecture immediately conducted on-site inspections on the farm, confirming that the dead birds were infected with the highly pathogenic avian influenza virus.
The communique also stated that all poultry raised on this farm will be culled and burned for burial. At the same time, the area within a radius of 3 kilometers around the farm will be designated as a “restricted area for movement”. Poultry carcasses and items that may cause the spread of pathogens within the area will be restricted from movement. The area within a radius of 3 to 10 kilometers will be designated as a “restricted area for movement”, and poultry and egg products from farms within the area cannot be transported outside the area.
