On March 10th, in the poultry and egg trading area of Beijing Xinfadi Agricultural Products Wholesale Market, merchant Chang Qidong is loading 40 boxes of eggs for sale. He told reporters that the daily sales volume has decreased by more than 20% compared to the Spring Festival period. In addition to the decrease in demand, the increase in supply is also the main reason for the decline in egg prices. Zhu Ning, Associate Researcher at the Institute of Agricultural Economics and Development of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, stated that due to the increase in supplementary chicken farming in the fourth quarter of last year, there have been more new laying hens recently. The total number of laying hens in the country has reached 1.12 billion, an increase of about 1.5% compared to the previous period. The production capacity of laying hens is at a historical high during the same period, and it is expected that egg prices will fluctuate at a low level in the first half of the year. (CCTV Finance)
