On April 24th, Hungarian Foreign Minister Szijjardo stated on the 23rd local time that the European Union is heading towards failure due to three reasons: war, illegal immigration, and Ukraine’s accelerated accession to the EU. To avoid Europe falling into trouble, we must say ‘no’ to the above three dangers. No rational person in Europe would think that Ukraine’s situation is better than any Western Balkan country that has been waiting for 15 years to join the European Union. Hungarian Prime Minister Orban also stated on the same day that Hungary’s future is highly likely to be determined by whether Ukraine becomes a member of the European Union within 15 to 20 years. For the government, the results of public opinion polls are crucial. If there is no decisive and clear majority vote against Ukraine’s accession to the European Union, it will become uncertain whether the government can safeguard Hungary’s interests in the EU.
