On the evening of April 20th, local time, the Israel Defense Forces confirmed that earlier that day, Israeli troops were attacked by armed members of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in Beit Hanoun in the northern Gaza Strip, resulting in the death of one Israeli soldier. This is also the first Israeli soldier to die in the Gaza Strip since the resumption of military operations on March 18th.
