Harvard University rejects Trump administration’s request for $9 billion funding threatened with interruption

On April 15th, Harvard University stated that it will not accept the demands made by the Trump administration and vowed not to “negotiate on its own independence or constitutional rights”. Two weeks ago, the US government threatened to suspend $9 billion in funding for the university. The school’s lawyer wrote in a letter to the US Department of Education and other federal agencies on Monday that “neither Harvard nor any other private university will allow itself to be taken over by the federal government.” The Trump administration had previously stated that if Harvard did not make changes to its governance structure, end diversity, fairness, and inclusivity (DEI) programs, and so on, funding would be revoked.
