The World Health Organization calls for the protection of Gaza’s medical resources and the swift implementation of a ceasefire

On April 14th, the Director General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, posted on social media that according to the latest information he received, after the Israeli military ordered the evacuation of personnel from Al Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza City and carried out airstrikes on the same day, the hospital has stopped working and one child has died due to the interruption of medical care. The emergency room, laboratory, X-ray machine, and pharmacy of the hospital were all damaged. The hospital was forced to transfer 50 patients to other hospitals, but there are still 40 critically ill patients who cannot be transferred. The hospital is currently unable to accept new patients. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus emphasized that hospitals are protected by international humanitarian law, and attacks on medical institutions must stop. Patients, medical personnel, and hospitals must be protected, and the blockade on aid entering Gaza must be lifted and a ceasefire must be achieved as soon as possible.
