On April 14th, Israeli Defense Minister Katz issued a statement stating that if the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) refuses to release Israeli detainees, the Israeli military will increase its offensive against the Gaza Strip. Katz stated in a statement that the Israeli military has now fully controlled the “Morag Corridor”, separating Rafa and Khan Younis. The establishment of the corridor will form a 12 kilometer long dividing line from east to west, making the area between the “Philadelphia Corridor” and the “Morag Corridor” part of the buffer zone established by Israel. Meanwhile, the buffer zone established by the Israeli military in the northern border area of Gaza is also constantly expanding. Katz stated in a statement that hundreds of thousands of Palestinians in Gaza have evacuated, and dozens of percent of Gaza’s land has become part of the buffer zone set up by Israel. At present, the main goal of the Israeli military is to exert pressure on Hamas to return to the negotiation framework for the release of detained persons. If Hamas refuses, the Israeli military’s actions will be further strengthened.
