On April 12th, it was reported that the price of raw milk has been continuously declining for over 30 months. Recently, reporters from Caixin News Agency learned from multiple ranches that some social and family ranches are facing reduced milk production and forced elimination of cows. Under long-term losses, the current proportion of family ranches is less than 10%. Industry insiders and experts told reporters from Caixin that social ranches that bear the pressure of upstream overcapacity need more detailed policies and financial support, establish mechanisms to protect the interests of dairy farmers, solve the contradiction between upstream and downstream industries, and develop integrated dairy farming and processing with family farms and farmer cooperatives as the main body. In the long run, this will help reduce breeding costs. Small financial note: In the No. 1 central document in 2025, it is proposed to support the integrated development of dairy farming and processing with family farms and farmers’ cooperatives as the main body.
