US judge blocks Trump administration from revoking temporary legal status for hundreds of thousands of immigrants in the US

On April 11th, US District Judge Indira Talwani ruled on April 10th local time to prevent the Trump administration from revoking the temporary legal status of hundreds of thousands of citizens in Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela. Talwani pointed out in the ruling that the decision by the Department of Homeland Security to shorten the two-year “parole period” for these immigrants was a “misinterpretation of the law”. Parole means that some foreigners without visas are allowed to stay or even work in the United States temporarily, without having to bear the risk of being expelled by relevant departments during this period. Generally, the Secretary of Homeland Security can use his discretion for emergency humanitarian reasons and major public interest reasons.
