On April 5th, Salido, the appointed governor of Kherson region by Russia, stated that the Russian military has thwarted the Ukrainian army’s attempt to establish a port in Mykolaiv. Nikolayev is located west of the Kherson region and can directly access the Black Sea through the South Bug River that flows through the area. Salido claimed that the Russian firepower has been able to cover up to Mykolaiv, and discovered and destroyed the Ukrainian army’s attempt to build a seaport in Mykolaiv. Salido emphasized that the Russian military will not allow any vessel, whether it is a warship or a merchant ship, to enter the Black Sea from Mykolaiv. The Ukrainian side has not yet responded to this.
