Kuala Lumpur, April 1 (Xinhua) – The “2025 China Malaysia Think Tank Forum” was recently held at the University of Malaya in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The theme of this forum is “Deepening and Enhancing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership to Promote the Co construction of a China Malaysia Community with a Shared Future”.
Experts and scholars from China Malaysia think tanks and academia have conducted in-depth exchanges on topics such as deepening the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Malaysia, China Malaysia relations, and ASEAN, contributing their wisdom to jointly seeking cooperation between China and Malaysia and promoting regional prosperity and stability.
Zhen Zhanmin, Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, stated that China and Malaysia have maintained a friendly relationship that has lasted for generations. Since the beginning of the new era, under the guidance of head of state diplomacy, China and Malaysia have reached important consensus on jointly building a community with a shared future after establishing a comprehensive strategic partnership, opening a new chapter in the history of bilateral relations. To continue promoting the deepening and development of China Malaysia relations, it is necessary to continuously strengthen political mutual trust and practice multilateralism; Promote pragmatic cooperation and achieve mutual benefit and win-win outcomes; Emphasize cultural exchanges and promote people to people connectivity.
He also stated that think tanks in China and Malaysia should fully leverage their own advantages, jointly study major issues in the development of bilateral relations, and provide more forward-looking, targeted, and actionable decision-making recommendations for the governments of the two countries.
Lin Ailian, Assistant Vice President of the University of Malaya, stated that academic cooperation and cultural exchanges are important ways to promote the development of bilateral relations. Universities and think tanks in Malaysia and China maintain close academic exchanges and cultivate talents for international students, playing a positive role in building mutual understanding between the people of Malaysia and China.
Chen Hongwan, Deputy Minister of Plantations and Industries of Malaysia, stated that the current relationship between Malaysia and China is facing new development opportunities. Especially since 2023, high-level visits between the two countries have provided strong impetus for efficient cooperation between the two sides. The Malaysian side hopes to strengthen research and development cooperation between Malaysia and China in multiple industries, including palm oil, and accelerate the upgrading of Malaysia’s palm oil industry.
Li Xiangyang, member of the academic department of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and president of the Asia Pacific and Global Strategy Research Institute, said that the China Indochina Peninsula Economic Corridor starts from China and runs through many Southeast Asian countries, including Malaysia. It is one of the six major economic corridors for international economic cooperation under the framework of the “the Belt and Road” and the main carrier of China ASEAN economic cooperation. After years of construction, the Indochinese Peninsula Economic Corridor has made significant progress.
The “China Malaysia Think Tank Forum” mechanism was established in 2016 and has since been held seven times in rotation between the two countries. This forum is jointly hosted by the Asia Pacific and Global Strategy Institute of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Malaya, and organized by the Institute of China Studies at the University of Malaya. The forum has made important contributions to continuously deepening the cooperation between think tanks of the two countries and promoting cultural exchanges between China and Malaysia.
