On April 1st, Algerian President Teben received a phone call from French President Macron on March 31st local time. Both sides had a lengthy, candid, and friendly conversation during the call regarding the current state of bilateral relations and the accumulated tension in recent months. Both sides reiterated their hope that the two countries will resume the effective dialogue mechanism established through the August 2022 Algiers Declaration. Both sides agree that based on common strategic and security interests, in the face of regional challenges and crises, it is necessary for the two countries to restore equal dialogue and inject new impetus into bilateral relations. During the call, both sides also agreed to immediately resume security cooperation between the two countries and the work of the Joint Committee of Historians, and were willing to restore and strengthen exchanges and cooperation between the two countries in the fields of justice, economy, and trade. In addition, both sides have agreed in principle to hold a meeting in the near future.
