On March 29th, UN Secretary General Guterres expressed concern over the Myanmar earthquake at his headquarters in New York and extended condolences to the governments and people of affected countries in Southeast Asia. He also stated that the United Nations system has been mobilized and prepared to provide assistance to countries and populations in need. UN Under Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Fletcher also confirmed on social media that with the support of a global emergency network, the UN crisis team in Myanmar is rapidly responding to the earthquake. If necessary, the United Nations will also use the Central Emergency Response Fund to provide support.
