On March 8th, a Chinese research team spent several years relying on the manned submersible “Striver” and the independently controllable software and hardware system in the field of deep-sea life research, making important breakthroughs in the research of deep-sea microorganisms and successfully drawing the world’s first map of the deepest marine ecosystem. This study constructed the most complete dataset of deep-sea prokaryotic microbial genes to date and identified 7564 representative genomes at the species level, of which 89.4% are new species that have not yet been reported, and their diversity is equivalent to the total known marine microorganisms worldwide.
