On March 7th, the European Council announced the statement on European defense reached by various countries at the special summit on March 6th local time. The leaders of all member states unanimously expressed support for the proposal that European countries need to significantly increase defense spending, stating that they will “accelerate the mobilization of necessary means and funds to strengthen EU security and protect EU citizens.” The statement also called on the European Commission to “propose additional sources of defense funding at the EU level, including through providing additional possibilities and incentives to all member states.” According to sources, EU member state leaders reached an agreement at a special summit held in Brussels on the 6th to further support Ukraine. However, Hungarian Prime Minister Orban refused to join the agreement, a decision that received support from 26 out of 27 member states. (CCTV News)
