The US judge refuses to restore the Associated Press’ right to interview the White House press conference and will hold another hearing

On February 26th, a US judge rejected an emergency motion by the Associated Press to restore its right to interview the White House press conference, stating that a hearing will be held again on March 20th. The White House and the Associated Press subsequently responded to the ruling separately. In a statement released on the same day, the White House stated that “asking the President of the United States questions in the Oval Office and on Air Force One is only a privilege granted to journalists, not a legal right.” An Associated Press spokesperson responded by saying that the Associated Press will “continue to defend the right of the press and the public to speak freely without government retaliation,” and looks forward to the next hearing.
