On January 17th, a wave of extremely cold weather is expected to sweep across the central United States this weekend, and then spread to New York and other areas on the East Coast, testing the power grid and potentially breaking the record for low temperatures. Starting from Saturday, severe cold weather will sweep across the Midwest and Southern regions of the United States, including Texas, and shift eastward early next week. According to the National Weather Service, the lowest temperature in Dallas on Monday night will reach 21 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 6 degrees Celsius), while temperatures in Manhattan will drop to around 10 degrees Fahrenheit later on Tuesday. Although the cold weather is expected to ease by next week, according to the National Weather Service’s forecast, the presidential inauguration ceremony on Monday is expected to take place in the cold, with temperatures in Washington dropping to 24 degrees Fahrenheit. However, prediction experts suggest that gusts of up to 25 miles per hour (40 kilometers per hour) may lead to lower perceived temperatures.
