Spanish Foreign Minister Meets with Lebanese President to Discuss Lebanon Israel Issue

On January 16th, Spanish Foreign Minister Alvarez visited the Lebanese capital Beirut and met with the new Lebanese President Aoun. Alvarez conveyed Spain’s firm support and commitment to Lebanon’s political stability, sovereignty, and territorial integrity to Aoun. Alvarez stated at a press conference that Spain will provide 10 million euros through the United Nations Development Programme to support the Lebanese Armed Forces and the country’s reconstruction efforts after the escalation of the Middle East conflict. Alvarez also insisted that the Israeli army must fully withdraw from southern Lebanon to implement a permanent ceasefire between the two countries. Alvarez also met with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, within which Spain has deployed 600 soldiers.
