On January 11th, the European Commission announced on January 10th that Ukraine will not participate in the high-level working group on natural gas transit issues to be established by Slovakia and the European Commission. Slovak Prime Minister Fizo met with EU Energy Commissioner Jorgensen in Brussels on the 9th and discussed the issue of natural gas transit from Russia through Ukraine. According to the meeting results, the European Commission announced the establishment of a high-level working group. It is reported that the working group will begin its work in the coming weeks, focusing on studying all the economic consequences of Ukraine’s termination of natural gas transit, including the economic consequences for Ukraine, exploring and determining various options, and studying how the EU can provide assistance.
