On January 11th, a US federal judge ruled on January 10th local time that Rudy Giuliani, former personal lawyer of Trump, had committed contempt of court for making further defamatory remarks in a defamation case involving former election workers in Georgia. This is the second time Giuliani has been charged with contempt of court this week. The case stems from Giuliani’s repeated claim during a live broadcast that the two plaintiffs engaged in fraudulent behavior during the 2020 election, despite having previously agreed to cease related statements under a court order. The judge emphasized Giuliani’s influence as a public figure and expressed concern over his continued dissemination of false statements. The jury had previously ruled that Giuliani should compensate the plaintiff $146 million, and the case is still on appeal.
