Chinese enterprises sign contract to undertake the construction of municipal infrastructure project in the newly reclaimed urban area of Maldives

Male, January 8th (Xinhua) – Maldivian President Moiz recently attended the signing ceremony between China National Machinery Engineering Corporation and the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure of Maldives. According to the signing documents, the enterprise undertakes the construction of the municipal infrastructure project for the newly reclaimed urban area in Maldives.

The signing ceremony was held at the Presidential Palace in Malaysia. Vice President Latif, several cabinet ministers, and Acting Charg é d’affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Malaysia, He Fen, also attended the signing ceremony. The Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure of Maldives, Musaleb, and the representative of China National Machinery Engineering Group, Qian Haojun, signed the project contract document.

The municipal infrastructure project signed this time is located on Gulifulu Island, about 4 kilometers west of the Maldives capital Male. It includes the construction of roads, power grids, communication fiber optic cables, water supply and drainage, fire protection pipelines, and gas supply pipelines. As part of the Greater Male region, Gulifulu Island has completed nearly 200 hectares of land reclamation, and the Malaysian side plans to develop the island into a livable new city to drive local economic development.
