On January 7th, the Paraguayan government required the Venezuelan ambassador and diplomatic personnel to leave the country within 48 hours. On the same day, the Venezuelan Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement saying that the President of Paraguay made inappropriate remarks against Venezuela on the 5th, interfered in its internal affairs, decided to sever diplomatic relations with Paraguay, and immediately recalled diplomatic personnel.
