On January 7th, Geng Shuang, Deputy Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations, spoke at the open meeting of the Security Council on the Sudan issue, calling on the international community to continue to increase its humanitarian assistance to Sudan. Geng Shuang said that the conflict in Sudan has been ongoing for 20 months. The current war is still dragging on, the number of civilian casualties continues to increase, the scale of displaced persons continues to expand, food shortages, frequent outbreaks of infectious diseases and other situations are becoming increasingly prominent. The situation is not optimistic, and the international community should not and cannot stand idly by. Geng Shuang calls on the United Nations to strengthen cooperation with the Sudanese government and other parties to ensure timely delivery of aid materials to everyone in need, bringing hope to the Sudanese people in need. The international community, especially traditional aid providers, should increase humanitarian support for Sudan and neighboring countries, and effectively fulfill their donation commitments.
