On January 6th, Japan’s three major shipping companies plan to increase the total number of liquefied natural gas carriers by over 40% by the fiscal year 2030, with an estimated total investment of over 1 trillion yen. Mitsui&Co. plans to expand its fleet by 40% to 140 vessels by fiscal year 2028 and reach 150 vessels by fiscal year 2030; Kawasaki Heavy Industries plans to increase the number of ships by 60% to 75 by the fiscal year 2030; Japan Post plans to increase its fleet by 30% to 120 ships by the 2028 fiscal year.
