On January 2nd, the China Maldives Free Trade Agreement officially came into effect on January 1st. In terms of goods trade, over 95% of products from both sides will ultimately achieve zero tariffs. After the agreement comes into effect, China will benefit from exporting industrial products such as ships, steel, furniture, ceramics, as well as agricultural products such as vegetables and fruits to Maldives. Maldives’ original aquatic products, nuts, wooden decorations, and other exports to China will also enjoy preferential treatment under the agreement.
