On December 29th, in response to the incident of “a school cafeteria in Benxi, Liaoning suspected of feeding students leftovers from garbage cans”, the State Council Food Safety Office, together with the Ministry of Education and the State Administration for Market Regulation, held talks with the main responsible persons of the People’s Government of Benxi City, Liaoning Province. The interview pointed out that food safety is closely related to the health and safety of the people, and campus food safety is of utmost importance, which is the duty of party committees and governments at all levels. The school canteen public opinion incident that occurred in Benxi, Liaoning has exposed problems such as inadequate implementation of the school’s main responsibility, a superficial accompanying meal system, and obvious loopholes in canteen management. The nature of the incident is extremely bad, seriously affecting the people’s confidence in the school’s management level and food safety work. The interview requires that Benxi City must raise its political stance, constantly tighten the string of food safety, and effectively enhance its sense of responsibility, urgency, and mission to do a good job in this area; We need to take effective measures to further strengthen the responsibilities of all parties involved in campus food safety, investigate potential risks and hazards, and crack down on law enforcement and case handling, and ensure the implementation of problem rectification; We must adhere to the principle of drawing analogies, not only make immediate changes, but also establish long-term solutions, promote the improvement of campus food safety systems, and effectively ensure the food safety of students on campus. The State Council Food Safety Office will conduct on-site inspections and supervise the implementation of rectification measures in Benxi City throughout the process.
