On December 28th, local time, on December 27th, in response to European officials posting on social media accusing the Hong Kong police of taking law enforcement actions against relevant personnel, a spokesperson for the mission to the European Union stated that Hong Kong is a society ruled by law, and those who violate the law will be held accountable. The Hong Kong police have taken law enforcement actions against individuals who have fled overseas and engaged in long-term anti China and anti Hong Kong activities in accordance with the Hong Kong National Security Law and the Hong Kong National Security Ordinance. This is in line with public opinion, legitimate and reasonable, and in compliance with international law and customary practices. The spokesperson of the Chinese Embassy in the European Union stated that Hong Kong affairs are purely China’s internal affairs, and China firmly opposes the EU’s interference in Hong Kong affairs by maintaining so-called “democracy and freedom”. China urges the EU to abide by international law and basic norms of international relations, respect China’s sovereignty and the rule of law in Hong Kong, and stop supporting anti China and anti Hong Kong elements.
