On December 23, the Sudan Rapid Support Force announced on December 22 local time that it had regained control of the Zark area in Northern Darfur from the Sudanese Armed Forces and their allies on the same day. The statement stated that after intense fighting, the Rapid Support Force expelled the Sudanese Armed Forces and local armed forces allied with them from the Zark area. The statement also accused local armed groups in Darfur of killing civilians, looting property, and burning public facilities in the Zark area. Neither the Sudanese Armed Forces nor the local armed forces in Darfur have responded to the statement. The day before, the Sudanese Armed Forces had just announced that they had recaptured the Zark area from the Rapid Support Force. (CCTV News)
