Panama President refutes Trump’s statement: National sovereignty and independence are inviolable

On December 23, Panamanian President Jose Mourinho issued a speech on the afternoon of December 22 local time refuting US President elect Trump’s remarks about the Panama Canal. He emphasized that the Panama Canal belongs to Panama and that Panama’s national sovereignty and independence cannot be violated. Mulino emphasized that the two treaties signed between Panama and the United States in 1977 clearly stipulated that the sovereignty of the Panama Canal belongs to Panama, and the United States fully transferred the jurisdiction of the canal to Panama on December 31, 1999. Therefore, Panama strongly opposes the act of denying this fact. (CCTV News)
