Stories of China and Peru Jointly Building the “the Belt and Road” | The Cultivation of Heavy Truck Female Drivers

This is the growth story of a Peruvian grazing girl in a Chinese company.

29 year old Peruvian girl Margo Gallegos was born into a poor family in Peru. When I was a child grazing, the first time I saw a truck in the distance, little Margo began to boldly imagine – if one day I could also drive that behemoth, how cool it would be!

After growing up, Margo worked as a safety officer at the Las Bambas copper mine operated by a Chinese company. Thanks to the encouragement and support of the company, Margo successfully transitioned to become a heavy machinery operator. When she first boarded the two-story truck, she was so excited that she almost cried.

Nowadays, Margo’s life has undergone earth shattering changes. Because as a heavy truck driver, the income increases year by year. Parents don’t have to work hard any more, and sisters and brothers are guaranteed in their studies and life. Since I started working, I have felt the support of the company for my growth. I feel very happy and my family is proud of me, “Margo said.

Margo was one of the first female heavy truck drivers at the Las Bambas copper mine. Chinese companies operating copper mines are committed to providing more career development opportunities for women through various measures. (Reporter: Jiang Xue, Wang Zhongyi, Zhang Duo; Hand drawn: Jiang Xue)
