Chinese enterprises sign contract for Namibia’s largest photovoltaic power plant project

Windhoek, September 9th (Xinhua) — China Jiangxi International Economic and Technological Cooperation Co., Ltd. (Jiangxi International), together with Chint New Energy Development (Zhejiang) Co., Ltd., and Namibian State Power Company officially signed a 100 MW solar photovoltaic power generation EPC general contracting project contract on September 9th. This is currently the largest solar photovoltaic power generation project in Namibia.

At the signing ceremony held in Windhoek, the capital of Namibia, the General Manager of the Namibian National Electricity Company, Kahenh Holofer, stated that the project will help the Namibian government achieve electricity supply security and self-sufficiency, further promoting overall economic growth and sustainable environmental development.

Deng Yan, the head of Jiangxi International Namibia Company, said at the ceremony, “We will complete the project with high speed, efficiency, and quality, and build the Rospina Solar Photovoltaic Power Station into a landmark project for photovoltaic power generation in Namibia

It is reported that the project is located in the town of Rospina in the Karas district of southern Namibia, 700 kilometers away from Windhoek. After the completion of the project, it will help alleviate the domestic electricity pressure and reduce its dependence on electricity imports.
