China’s aid to upgrade and renovate Luang Prabang Hospital in Laos officially launched and handed over to Laos

On August 17th, Xinhua News Agency reported that the upgrade and renovation project of the Chinese aid hospital in Luang Prabang, Laos was officially launched and handed over to Laos on the 16th. Relevant personnel from the Ministry of Health of Laos, the Laos China Cooperation Committee, the Chinese Embassy in Laos, and project construction units attended the handover ceremony.

In his speech, Lao Health Minister Benfeng stated that upgrading and renovating the Luang Prabang Hospital reflects China’s strong support for the livelihood of the people in Laos. Lao Fang is willing to learn from China’s comprehensive deepening reform experience and further strengthen cooperation with China in the field of medical and health care.

Chinese Ambassador to Laos Fang Hong stated that China is willing to share its experience in healthcare reform with Laos, jointly implement important measures related to health cooperation in the new version of the action plan for building a China Laos community with a shared future, and build a China Laos health community.

The Luang Prabang Hospital in Laos was built with assistance from China. The upgrade and renovation project includes the construction of a new surgical and cardiovascular building, a Chinese expert apartment, a sewage treatment plant, a fire water tank, and a water pump room, as well as the maintenance and improvement of the previously constructed building and the provision of related equipment. After the project handover, the Chinese side will provide technical assistance for a period of three years to continue improving the local medical and health level and medical treatment capabilities, and to build Luang Prabang Hospital into a central hospital in northern Laos, effectively improving local people’s livelihoods.
