Construction of the Future Economic Zone Project in the Ethiopian Capital by Chinese Enterprises Starts

Addis Ababa, August 14 (Xinhua) — The “Addis Future Economic Zone” project, constructed by Chinese enterprises, held its groundbreaking ceremony in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, on the 14th.

Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy stated at the ceremony that the local government is committed to making Addis Ababa one of the most beautiful cities in the world, and the construction of the “Addis Ababa Future Economic Zone” is an important part of this process. He thanks China Communications Construction Corporation and the Addis Ababa Municipal Government for their efforts in this project.

Addis Ababa Mayor Adanich Abebe stated at the ceremony that the development of the “Addis Future Economic Zone” can effectively enhance the city’s image, improve people’s lives, create a large number of job opportunities, and provide high standard housing facilities.

Chen Zhong, Deputy General Manager of China Communications Construction Corporation, said that the company strives to complete and operate the project as soon as possible, while promoting cooperation and knowledge transfer during the construction process.

It is reported that the “Addis Future Economic Zone” project is located in the Addis Ababa Kotra region, covering an area of 35 hectares. The project is undertaken by China Communications Construction Corporation and adopts a rolling development model. The first phase construction period does not exceed 3 years, and the total development period of the park does not exceed 8 years. After the completion of the project, the area will become an urban complex and economic zone integrating international commerce, residential and office spaces, leisure shopping, cultural and educational facilities, etc.
