Vientiane, August 9th (Xinhua) — The Laotian government and CGN Energy Technology (Laos) Co., Ltd. signed a development agreement for the photovoltaic sector of the second phase of the Laos North Interconnection Clean Energy Base in Vientiane on August 8th.
Vice Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Laos, Changsha Lunsai, Chinese Ambassador to Laos, and officials from relevant departments of Laos attended the ceremony.
Thongpa Intafong, Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources of Laos, stated at the signing ceremony that the implementation of the Northern Laos Interconnection Clean Energy Base project can not only drive the local energy green and low-carbon transformation and sustainable economic and social development, but also improve the level of power interconnection between northern Laos and southern China.
The Northern Laos Interconnection Clean Energy Base Project spans across the provinces of Oudomxay, Phongshali, and Langnantha in Laos, and will construct integrated clean energy bases for wind, solar, water, and storage. According to the agreement, both parties will jointly develop the second phase of 580MW and 420MW photovoltaic projects in Langnanta and Udomxay provinces, based on the first phase of the 1000MW photovoltaic project in Udomxay province.
At present, the first phase of the 1000MW photovoltaic project in Udomsa Province has entered the engineering preparation stage. The signing of the 580MW and 420MW photovoltaic projects in Langnanta and Oudomxay provinces for the Phase II wind and solar projects will help further bring China’s advantageous production capacity in the new energy field to Laos, drive local energy transformation and industrial chain upgrading, and enhance the level of power interconnection between China and Laos.
