On July 31 local time, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who was on a multi country visit to the Indian Pacific region, said that the United States “did not know and participated in” the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, the top leader of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas). Antony Blinken reiterated his support for the ceasefire and hostage release agreement between Israel and Hamas, but added that it was difficult to “speculate” whether Haniyeh’s death would complicate the ceasefire and the agreement on the release of detainees.
