Prime Minister of Sri Lanka Meets with a Delegation Led by Scientific Researchers from the Ecological Environment Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences

Colombo, Xinhuanet, July 12 (Reporter Wu Yue, Chen Dongshu) Prime Minister Gunawadner of Sri Lanka met with the scientific researchers from the Ecological Environment Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences who went to Sri Lanka to participate in a series of seminars on sustainable development topics in Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka, on the 10th.

Gunawadna expressed sincere gratitude to Chinese scientists for their contributions to improving the livelihoods of Sri Lankans. He said that for Sri Lanka and its people, the efforts of Chinese scientists are priceless. We believe that this series of seminars will pave the way for new research and cooperation, and we hope that both sides can achieve new results through cooperation. Sri Lanka will provide all possible assistance for the cooperation project.

Zhu Yongguan, director of the Ecological Environment Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and academician of the CAS Member, said that China and Sri Lanka need to strengthen overall thinking and comprehensive cooperation to jointly address the global challenges of climate change. The meeting strongly promoted exchanges and cooperation between China and Sri Lanka and other countries jointly building the “the Belt and Road” in the field of climate change.

During the meeting, Yang Min, a researcher of the Ecological Environment Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, introduced the research progress and recent achievements of the China Sri Lanka Joint Center for Water Technology Research and Demonstration to Gunawadner, and said that China would spare no effort to help Sri Lanka research and judge to provide relevant solutions to ensure drinking water safety.

The series of seminars on sustainable development themes are jointly organized by China and Sri Lanka.
