Handover Ceremony of China’s Assistance to Cuba Photovoltaic Power Station Equipment Project

Santo Domingo, Cuba, June 7th (Xinhua) – The handover ceremony of China’s 12 MW solar photovoltaic power plant equipment project was held in the central city of Santo Domingo, Cuba on June 7th. Representatives of the Cuban Revolution Commander and Deputy Prime Minister Valdes, Chinese Ambassador to Cuba Ma Hui, and other representatives of the ancient Chinese government and enterprises attended the handover ceremony.

Vice Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment of Cuba, Rivas, who attended the ceremony, expressed gratitude on behalf of the Cuban government for China’s assistance and the hard work of Chinese builders. She stated in her speech that in the current complex situation of energy development in Cuba, the project is of great significance to the country’s national economy and people.

Ma Hui said in his speech that this project is one of the important achievements of practical cooperation under the framework of China Cuba joint construction of the “the Belt and Road”. China will continue to provide assistance to Cuba in promoting energy development, further driving economic growth, and ensuring national energy security to the best of its ability, and promote mutually beneficial cooperation and common development in the energy field between China and Cuba.

It is reported that the project was officially launched earlier this year. The installed capacity of the three solar photovoltaic power stations in the project is 4 megawatts, located in the provinces of Shego de Avila, Orgin, and BiaClara in Cuba. At present, all three power stations have been fully connected to the grid for power generation, with an average daily total power generation of about 60000 kilowatt hours, which is expected to benefit 25000 households lacking electricity across Cuba.
